  In our youth ministry I have talked about the 5 main components of a healthy ministry.  These components are Fellowship, Worship, Evangelism, Discipleship, and Ministry.  These components are taken out of two verses: the great commission (Matthew 28: 19-20) and the greatest commandment (Mark 12:30-31).

Our Wednesday night meeting focuses on 3 of these components (fellowship, worship, and evangelism).  We have a small group that meets on Sunday evening.  This meeting focuses primarily on fellowship and discipleship.

The component that is missing in these two meetings is ministry.  The youth team is very excited about starting a youth ministry team called “Hands”.  The goal of this team is to go into the community and serve others.  We are working out the details, but the idea is to go out into the community a minimum of twice a month to serve others.  This service may be by helping the elderly with yard work, or helping out at the soup kitchen at the rescue mission or even picking up trash around the community.  The key verse of this ministry team is 1 John 3:18, “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.”  The purpose of this ministry is to give the youth an opportunity to serve, and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
